How to Register a Domain Name With Yahoo!

Registering a domain name is an important decision for any company, small business or aspiring Internet entrepreneur. Small Business as your preferred provider for domain name registration services, let's begin the process of hot to register a domain name with Yahoo!

Step #1
Picking a good domain name. This is one of the most important decisions to make and should not be done hastily. For most, choosing a domain name is a simple as registering your name such as, YourName.com or your business name, MyBusiness.com or you may want to choose your companies brand like, RedWidgets.com. However, some things to consider when selecting an appropriate good domain name are as follows: unique and easy to remember; short as possible; keyword or keyword phrase rich for optimal search visibility; avoid using hyphens.

Step #2
Yahoo! Domain Registration Center. In order to register a domain name with Yahoo! you will have to visit the Yahoo! Small Business Site. So open your favourite browser such as Internet Explorer, FireFox, etc. or just click on a another tab if you already have it open and type in the following url in the address bar as shown below: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ 

Clicking on this url will will take you to the Yahoo! Small Business Site as shown below:
As indicated above with the red arrow, click on the 'Products' tab on the Yahoo! Small Business site where you can begin the process to register a domain name with Yahoo! Underneath the 'Products' tab you will see a list of links ( Web Hosting | Ecommerce | Domains | etc.).  Now click on the "Domains' link where you will be directed to Yahoo Domain Registration page as shown below:








Step #3
Domain Name Availability. Now you will see a small a light blue search box in the middle of the page right next to a professional looking woman sitting next to a laptop computer. In this next step of the domain name registration process, Yahoo! will determine if the domain name you have selected is available. Place your cursor over the search box and click it. Now, type in the desired domain name and the desired two to four extension afterwards. For example, type in: MyAwesomeWebsite.com in the search box and then click the 'Search' button. See the results below:

Okay, so the domain name you want to register is taken but do not get discouraged. Go back to your list of keywords and start trying some different combinations; also try to resist the temptation to start using hyphens or changing domain name extensions from the preferred .com to other less popular ones such as .biz, .net. or .info. Okay so go ahead and click the 'Search Again' button as noted above. If you try this several times with no luck, you may want to try clicking on the '>See Similar Name Options<' link just below:


Once you have selected this option, you will be taken to a page that looks like this:

To the right of the "MyAwesomeWebsite" you will see several domain name extensions that are currently available as shown above; you may select any one of these choices it an alternate domain name extension other than the preferred .com works for you and your business/brand.  

Otherwise you may wish to chose one of the alternate domain names that have been suggested to you as noted above. Further, by clicking on the 'See More' link you will have the ability to view more available domain names. On the top right hand corner of the web page, you may view some of your previous domain names you unsuccessfully sought for availability.

Step #4
Purchase your Domain Name. Once you have selected an available domain name from the Yahoo!database, it is now time to select your preferred billing period.

Use your mouse to place the cursor arrow on the right hand corner of the "For How Long?" menu and click it to bring up the various payment terms from as little as one year to as much as five years.

It is recommended that you chose the longest possible billing period. If you select the year by year term, it is that much more likely you could run the risk of a mishap occurring in the billing 

Once you have made the appropriate selection, click on the 'Continue' button.
